Rigby reflected on the gap in the literature regarding the role's history and assigned responsibilities, and the necessary need to track its progression in an unsettled global security environment.
They discussed why Canada needs to get serious about its national security and how the office of the NSIA has become more complex as the definition of security has expanded. Rigby and Dr. Chapnick also noted the different priorities of officials who have held the job and ways they collaborated across government to address emerging threats.
Rigby argued that many of Canada's security offices need direction, guidance, authority, above all, the resources to accomplish their mission, and this begins at the strategic level.听
