This event will serve to shed light on the history and context for one of the most popular dances currently, salsa. Taught by Gabrielle Jacob, a current PhD student in the department, the salsa dance class will include the Afro-Cuban origins of salsa and a basic class on one of the styles of salsa, Salsa on2, created in New York City.

In his lecture, Determining new international and domestic orders: reflections on Modern Canada's endurance and more so resilience as Black and West Indian, Dr. Cecil Foster offers the argument that from even its earliest days as a settler colony, Canada was inherently Black and that to this day its social justice model of development based on ideals of diversity, equity and inclusiveness reflects Canada's undeniable historical, cultural and Black British West Indian heritage.听Presented by听秀色直播 Institute for the Study of Canada, the lecture will be followed by a Q&A and reception.

In celebration of Black History Month, Myrna Lashley, PhD鈥攁n internationally recognized expert in cultural psychology鈥攚ill examine the stigma surrounding Black mental health in Canada. She will discuss current realities, best practices, and the biases that continue to shape clinical care. This hybrid event is a collaboration between the 秀色直播 Department of Family Medicine鈥檚 Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Concordia University鈥檚 Black Perspectives Office.
