Mental Health First Aid (2 day certification training)

Audience: All staff members in Management and Excluded positions

³¢±š²Ō²µ³Ł³ó:Ģż2 Days

Description:

Mental health issues will affect one in three Canadians at some point in their life; chances are there are people around you who need help. This two-day Mental Health ā€œFirst Aidā€ course teaches participants skills needed to help someone who may be developing a mental health problem or is experiencing a mental health crisis. This course does not train you to be a therapist, counselor or mental health professional, but instead teaches you how to apply the needed ā€œfirst aidā€ until professional help is received or until the crisis is resolved. The course covers the following topics:

  • What is meant by mental health and mental illness problems
  • Signs and symptoms of common mental health problems and crisis situations
  • A basic model to provide mental health aid
  • Information about effective interventions and treatments
  • How to access professional help

Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a Mental Health First Aid Canada Certificate. For this reason, attendance is mandatory for the full two days.Ā

Note: This program can be offered in French if there are sufficient numbers. Please email od.hr [at] mcgill.ca for more information.
