 ube channel.\n\n\nThe Golden Violin Award was established in 2006 through 
 a generous gift from Canadian philanthropist Seymour Schulich. The $25\,00
 0 First Prize is awarded by a special committee of internal and external j
 urors at the Schulich School of Music to an undergraduate\, graduate or di
 ploma student in the Schulich School of Music who demonstrates exceptional
  potential in the String Area. For the 15th edition\, the First Prize was 
 increased to $30\,000. The 16th edition saw additional generous scholarshi
 p offerings by the Schulich Foundation. The finalists who place second and
  third will each receive $15\,000 and $5\,000 respectively\, in commendati
 on of their performance and participation in the Schulich School of Music 
 community. \n\nThe Golden Violin\, made of pewter and gold plate\, remains
  on permanent display in ÐãÉ«Ö±²¥â€™s Marvin Duchow Music Library. Its recipie
 nt\, chosen by jury and a rigourous selection process\, receives a generou
 s scholarship\, valued this year at $30\,000 as well as a smaller likeness
  of the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin. Read more about t
