It draws on Michel-Rolph Trouill ot’s (1988) insight that landscapes testify to the layering of successive forms of colonial intrusion in a way that unites time. In telling the hist ory of the region through the khalla\, this talk lays out some of the ways people have negotiated and contested these intrusions\, constructing an a rchive in the process that testifies not only to waves of dispossession an d destruction\, but also to processes of recovery and regeneration.\n DTSTART:20250407T163000Z DTEND:20250407T180000Z LOCATION:Room 116\, Peterson Hall\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 0E6\, 3460 rue McTavish SUMMARY:“The khalla is running away from us:” Gulf capital\, deficient dese rts and property-making in central Sudan.
