Through their lived experience \, their observations over time and continuous engagement in their researc h projects\, they will discuss the importance of RNA research that is equi table and inclusive towards the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.\n\nRegister here! \n \nAgenda:\n\n\n \n \n 12:00\n Opening remarks by Mariloue Daudier\, Senior EDI Advisor at D2R\n \n \n 12:05\n \n Discussion with Raquel Cuella Martin and Ben jamin Kaufman facilitated by Amirah-Iman Hicks\n\n This discussion will be divided into three main themes:\n\n \n Fostering equitable and inclusive res earch practice for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community\n Developing research design th at integrates considerations for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community\n Inequities towa rds the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in RNA therapeutics\n \n \n \n \n 12:50\n Q&A\n \n \n \n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nAmirah-Iman Hicks\, PhD (she/her/hers) is the Equity \, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) advisor for the Pan-Canadian Genomic Libr ary (PCGL) initiative. She obtained her PhD in Physiology\, specialization in neurosciences\, from 秀色直播 in 2025. She has extensive expe rience in advocating for EDI through her work as the Secretary of Black in Neuro (https://blackinneuro.com)\, an international non-profit organizati on that aims to create a space for Black neuroscientists and neuro-profess ional. She also actively engages with her local community as a member of t he Canadian Black Scientists Network (https://blackscientists.ca). She aim s to utilize her research experience to champion for increased representat ion of historically excluded groups in scientific spaces.\n\n\n\nRaquel Cu ella Martin (she/her) joined the Department of Human Genetics at 秀色直播 an d the Canada Excellence Research Chair in Genomic Medicine as an assistant professor in August 2022. She undertook her Ph.D. studies at Dr. JR. Chap man鈥檚 lab at the Wellcome Center for Human Genetics (University of Oxford) . During this time\, Raquel described the mechanistic role of the DNA repa ir protein 53BP1 in optimal p53 tumour suppressor responses. In her postdo ctoral work as an EMBO long-term fellow at the Ciccia lab (Columbia Univer sity)\, she used CRISPR-dependent base editing to perform genetic screens at nucleotide resolution and functionalize DNA variants at scale. Such an approach allowed her to identify loss-\, gain- and separation-of-function mutations\, and new functional domains in DNA damage response proteins\, a nd to functionalize variants of uncertain significance in cancer predispos ition syndromes.\n\n\n\nBenjamin Kaufman (he/him/his/il) is a first-year h uman genetics PhD student at 秀色直播\, specializing in populatio n genetics. He obtained his MA in Anthropology\, focusing on Biological An thropology\, from the University of New Brunswick in 2024. His research in volves using genetics to infer the demographic history and health disparit ies within Canada鈥檚 Jewish population. In addition to his academic pursuit s\, Benjamin has actively engaged in preserving archaeological remains and sites threatened by rising sea levels. By drawing from past experiences\, he seeks to contribute to a better understanding of how historical contex ts shape contemporary health disparities among marginalized groups. Benjam in鈥檚 multifaceted background enriches his studies and enhances his engagem ent with pressing public health issues.\n\n\n\nMariloue Daudier (she/her) is D2R鈥檚 Senior EDI Advisor. She earned a Bachelor鈥檚 degree of Social Work from 秀色直播 in 2013 and a Master鈥檚 degree of Social Innovation Management from HEC Montr茅al in 2016. She has over nine years of experien ce in coordinating equity\, diversity and inclusion (EDI) projects in many settings\, including the social economy sector\, community organizations\ , the private sector\, the Government of Canada (Social Sciences and Human ities Research Council of Canada) and universities (the Office of Communit y Engagement at Concordia University\, the IVADO initiative at Universit茅 de Montr茅al and the General Secretariat at HEC Montr茅al). Involved in her community\, she volunteers as the President of the Intercultural Council o f the City of Longueuil and as a Board Member of Coalition Longueuil - 脡qu ipe Catherine Fournier\, the elected party in her city. She is regularly i nvited as a speaker\, facilitator\, evaluator or trainer to share her expe rtise in EDI in different contexts.\n DTSTART:20250619T160000Z DTEND:20250619T170000Z LOCATION:Zoom SUMMARY:Opportunities and challenges of the 2SLGBTQIA+ Community in RNA Res earch URL:/dna-to-rna/channels/event/opportunities-and-chall enges-2slgbtqia-community-rna-research-365468 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
