However\, the curre nt understanding of the drivers behind hospitals’ digital advantage remain s limited. This is an important issue for managers given that digital adva ntage can create performance benefits for hospitals. In this study\, we ex amine how and when hospitals attain digital advantage. Drawing on problemi stic search and institutional theories\, we hypothesize that shortfalls in operational and reputational performance motivate technological search th at underpins hospitals’ digital advantage. Further\, we hypothesize that p olicy uncertainty has differential moderating effects on the two relations hips. We test our theory from a panel dataset of 2\,020 U.S. hospitals spa nning 2007 to 2017. We find that shortfalls in operational and reputationa l performance influence hospital digital advantage. However\, as policy un certainty increases\, the relationship between operational performance sho rtfall and digital advantage strengthens\, while the relationship between reputational performance shortfall and digital advantage weakens. Our stud y contributes to research by explaining that operational and reputational performance shortfalls have non-equivalent impacts on digital advantage an d identifying the policy uncertainty conditions under which their impacts are stronger or weaker. Our work has implications to practice as it helps decision makers understand hospitals’ search behaviors in the presence of performance shortfalls and the role that policy uncertainty plays in their efforts to achieve a technological edge.\n DTSTART:20260227T153000Z DTEND:20260227T170000Z LOCATION:Room 410\, Bronfman Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3A 1G5\, 1001 rue Sherbrooke Ouest SUMMARY:Business & Management Research Centre: Magno Queiroz URL:/desautels/channels/event/business-management-rese arch-centre-magno-queiroz-371347 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
